Tasty Pep© sweet peppers were developed by the growers of the Dutch company Westlandpeppers. Westlandpeppers is a family business that was established in 1930 by Mr Hendrik Boekestijn. He was later succeeded by his son, Pieter Boekestijn. Since then, Pieter’s three sons Henk, Dolf and Pieter have turned the business into a successful enterprise producing a wide range of chili peppers and various types of sweet peppers. The company has two production units – one in ‘s Gravenzande and the other in De Lier. They both lie in the Westland agricultural area, which explains the company’s name: Westland Peppers. We grow our peppers in an area of about 9 hectares, and in peak periods around 60 people work at our farms.
Tasty Pep© sweet peppers are grown in very much the same way as ‘ordinary’ sweet peppers. The only difference is that the Tasty Pep© peppers are seedless. Having no seeds to sow means it is quite a challenge to grow new plants. We grow all our sweet pepper varieties in greenhouses – different varieties in different departments. We grow more peppers of some varieties than of others; that depends on the demand. Each variety has its own specific care requirements, and we adjust our cultivation method to meet all those requirements.
